Southern Tower Dining will be holding « The Blessing of the Sea and the Mountain from Onagawa Cuisine Fair » in Autumn, 2025.
The Hotel Century Southern Tower has been having meaningful interactions with Onagawa Town, Miyagi Prefecture since 2016, where it was seriously damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
Onagawa is a port town in Miyagi Predecture. Located on the east coast and facing the Sanriku Rias shoreline, and surrounded by a rich natural environment, fisheries has been the leading industry of the town and it is known for rich with fresh seafood as well.
The rich and ideal marine environment makes it possible to farm high-quality oysters, scallops, and silver salmon.
We had the first Onagawa Cuisine Fair in Summer, 2024. The French tasting courses were composed with only Seafood from Onagawa Town.
Enjoy the experience of « Reducing Food Waste and Ethical Consumption » through the French Tasting Lunch and Dinner courses and feel the taste of Autumn at Southern Tower Dining.
Due to changes in fish species caused by climate change, there has been an overabundance in catch, and also unutilized fish such as « sardines » that are being reused due to reasons such as being unable to be shipped because of non-standard specifications. This unutilized sardines are blended with fresh savory vegetables grown in Tokyo to create rich broth with the flavors of seafood.
Onagawa is also well-known as a port with one of the big catches of Pacific saury. This Soup de Poisson overflows a quenelle made from mashed sanma, with the essence of Onagawa Town.
The rich broth with the flavors of seafood is being used to the fish dish. Onagawa town is successfully farmed for the first time in Miyagi Prefecture, and is famous for boasting the highest aquaculture catch of Coho Salmon and Mussels in Japan.
The Main Dish of the lunch course and dinner course is « Venison hamburger Steak from Onagawa Town ».
Venison is being minced and turned into an easy-to-eat hamburger. The Venision meat, which is moist with no odor and has a deep flavor, is also rich in protein and iron. This fair offers meat from wild deer that is being utilized effectively.
Captured deers are processed at a meat processing facility in Onagawa Town. The deers accepted at the facility are 100% utilized in various ways, including not only meat but also leather and antlers.This effective utilization and ethical consumption, which is expanding across Japan, helps prevent damage to crops and forests caused by an overabundance of wild birds and animals that impact the natural environment, and it also contributes to reducing the effects on the ecosystem, having a positive influence on the environment.
